MUMBAI, India — Infosys Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Salil Parekh on Wednesday denied claims circulating on social media that an Infosys employee was detained or deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, calling the reports incorrect and misleading.

Speaking during the company’s third-quarter earnings conference call, Parekh said no Infosys employee has been apprehended by U.S. immigration authorities. He clarified that while one employee was denied entry into the United States several months ago and returned to India, the individual was neither detained nor deported.

“There has been no such incident involving detention,” Parekh said, addressing concerns sparked by a viral social media post.

The clarification followed a post shared on X on January 13 by a user named Chetan Anantharamu, which alleged that a Mysuru-based Infosys employee working on an on-site U.S. project was taken into custody by immigration agents and given two hours to choose between returning to India or facing jail. The post further claimed the employee was escorted during his return journey via Frankfurt and later to Bengaluru, subjected to public humiliation, and received by Infosys lawyers at the Bengaluru airport as the company prepared legal action against U.S. authorities.

Infosys categorically denied those allegations, with Parekh stating that no such detention has occurred in recent times.

Separately, Infosys reported continued improvement in employee retention during the December quarter of fiscal year 2026. The company’s voluntary attrition rate declined to 12.3 percent, down from 13.7 percent in the same quarter a year earlier, and fell by 2 percentage points sequentially from the September quarter.

The company’s workforce also expanded during the quarter. Infosys reported a total headcount of 337,034 employees as of December 31, 2025, up from 331,991 at the end of September, representing a net addition of 5,043 employees. On a year-over-year basis, Infosys added 13,655 employees, increasing its workforce from 323,379 in December 2024. (Source: IANS)
