WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump is set to attend the swearing-in ceremony on Monday for Sergio Gor, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to India and a longtime Trump aide, the White House confirmed.

Gor, 38, was confirmed by the Senate in October and will be the youngest U.S. ambassador to serve in New Delhi. He previously led the White House Presidential Personnel Office, where he oversaw the vetting process for thousands of appointments in the administration. He is expected to arrive in New Delhi soon after the ceremony.

Trump announced Gor’s nomination in August, stating publicly that the role required someone he trusted to advance his agenda in a strategically critical region. “For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us ‘Make America Great Again’. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador,” Trump said at the time.

Gor will also serve as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs. During his Senate confirmation hearing in September, he described India as a strategic partner with growing influence. “India’s geographic position, economic growth and military capabilities make it a cornerstone of regional stability,” he said. “I will work to advance U.S. interests by deepening defense cooperation, strengthening fair trade relations, and expanding technology and energy collaboration.”

He has emphasized plans to expand joint military exercises, increase co-production of defense systems, and pursue major defense sales to India.

Gor met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New York during the UN General Assembly in September. Soon after his confirmation, he made a four-day visit to India, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials. After that meeting, he posted: “An honour to be with PM Narendra Modi this evening. Our relationship with India will only strengthen over the months ahead!”

Modi responded by welcoming Gor’s appointment, saying he was confident it would further strengthen the India–U.S. strategic partnership. (Source: IANS)
