Dhaka– The Awami League has alleged another violent attack on Bangladesh’s Hindu minority, saying that a man named Kinkor Das was abducted and severely beaten by armed men in the Mauli area of Narail district.

According to the party, Das disappeared after being taken by unidentified assailants and was later found with signs of brutal torture. His motorcycle, gold chain, and ring were reportedly stolen during the attack.

In a statement shared on X, the Awami League said, “The story of Kinkor Das is a chilling testament to the terror facing the Hindu community in Bangladesh. He was abducted, tortured, and robbed. His case is not an isolated incident — it is a horrifying reflection of a state that silently permits the systematic persecution of minorities.”

The party accused the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government of allowing a surge in violence against minorities. “Under the illegitimate Jamaat-backed Yunus regime, temple desecrations, idol demolitions, and targeted violence have become routine. Justice is a forgotten word,” the Awami League said.

Criticizing the current administration, the party asked, “What kind of government is this, where being a minority is treated as a crime?”

Human rights groups and international observers have raised concerns over increasing attacks on Hindu communities and religious sites since August 2024, when the Yunus-led interim government took power.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said last month that the “wave of multidimensional violence” targeting Hindus under the current regime has “shocked the entire world.” She described the situation as “a horrific time of persecution of religious minorities across the nation.”

The Awami League also condemned recent temple vandalism and idol destruction during Durga Puja preparations, calling the ongoing violence a direct consequence of the interim government’s rule.

“Since this illegitimate group seized state power, killings have been carried out against Hindus and other minority communities,” the party said, adding that the current regime has made Bangladesh unsafe for people of all faiths. (Source: IANS)
