A proud Boston native and the son of Indian immigrants, Judge Sherring made history in 2018 as the first Indian American appointed to the Massachusetts Housing Court. His appointment wasn’t just a personal achievement—it was a defining moment for the Commonwealth’s judiciary, reflecting the growing importance of representation and equity within the legal system.

Before taking the bench, Judge Sherring served in roles that spanned the public and private sectors—from Assistant District Attorney to civil rights prosecutor in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and later as a partner at Dakoyannis & Sherring, LLC. Across each chapter, his unwavering focus remained the same: advocating for fairness, protecting the vulnerable, and ensuring every person’s voice is heard.

In Housing Court, he brings empathy, balance, and a deep respect for the law to cases that directly impact people’s daily lives. Off the bench, he’s a mentor, a role model, and a steadfast supporter of nonprofits like Akshaya Patra and Saheli—organizations that mirror his values of service, dignity, and social justice.
