New Delhi– Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his heartfelt concern and extended best wishes to former U.S. President Joe Biden for a swift and full recovery following the announcement of Biden’s diagnosis with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Taking to the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote:
“Deeply concerned to hear about Joe Biden’s health. Extend our best wishes to him for a quick and full recovery. Our thoughts are with Dr. Jill Biden and the family.”

Biden’s office issued a statement on Sunday revealing that the former President had recently undergone medical evaluation after experiencing worsening urinary symptoms.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was evaluated for a newly detected prostate nodule,” the statement said. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), with metastasis to the bone.”

While the diagnosis points to a more advanced and aggressive form of the disease, Biden’s physicians noted that the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive—a factor that allows for more effective treatment strategies.
“The president and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his medical team,” the statement added.

Current U.S. President Donald Trump also responded to the news on his Truth Social platform, saying:
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

The announcement has reignited public and political conversation about Biden’s health, particularly in light of his age and recent exit from office earlier this year following the 2024 election.

Biden has long been an advocate for cancer research, especially after the tragic loss of his son, Beau Biden, to brain cancer in 2015. His commitment to the cause led to the launch of the “Cancer Moonshot” initiative—first during his tenure as Vice President under President Barack Obama, and later as President. (Source: IANS)
