New Delhi–The year 2025 has emerged as a decisive phase in India’s economic governance, marked by deep and irreversible reforms across taxation, labour, energy and welfare, according to Akhilesh Mishra, CEO of BlueKraft Digital Foundation.
In a detailed social media post on Monday, Mishra said the reforms undertaken during the year represented a fundamental shift in economic decision-making under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, moving away from decades of policy hesitation and incrementalism.
“The changes in 2025 were not cosmetic. They redefined how the Indian state approaches taxation, labour laws, capital, land and welfare—without chaos, coercion or cronyism,” Mishra said.
Highlighting tax reforms, Mishra pointed to the rollout of GST 2.0, which he described as a transition from uncertainty to stability in India’s indirect tax system. The revised structure, featuring fewer tax slabs and continued protection for essential goods, has improved compliance and encouraged higher consumption, he said. Mishra also credited the reform with rebuilding trust between the Centre and states, which had weakened in the early years of GST implementation.
Another major milestone, according to Mishra, was the decision to exempt annual income up to Rs 12 lakh from taxation, offering significant relief to the middle class. He said the measure has reduced paperwork and fear of harassment while boosting disposable incomes and domestic demand.
“Record-high direct tax collections despite lower rates prove that compliance improves when citizens are trusted,” he noted.
On the energy front, Mishra highlighted the SHANTI Bill, which opens India’s nuclear sector to regulated private participation. He described the move as a long-pending reform that would enhance clean energy generation, strengthen energy security and reinforce India’s strategic autonomy, while maintaining sovereign oversight.
Labour reforms were also cited as a key achievement of 2025. Mishra said the consolidation of numerous outdated labour laws into four modern labour codes has balanced worker welfare with the need for job creation. Provisions such as social security for gig and platform workers and simplified compliance systems, he added, signal a decisive shift away from the inspector raj.
Overall, Mishra said 2025 would be remembered as a watershed year that reshaped India’s economic governance framework and laid the foundation for long-term growth. (Source: IANS)
