U.S. Ambassador Says Rubio Visit Could Strengthen India Ties

NEW DELHI — U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said Wednesday that the United States is looking forward to building stronger ties with India as Secretary of State Marco Rubio prepares to visit the country.

Gor described Rubio as a “good friend” and said Washington places significant value on its relationship with New Delhi.

“Looking forward to welcoming my good friend Secretary Rubio to India! The United States deeply values our growing partnership with India, and we are excited to build even stronger ties that will benefit both our nations and the world. See you soon, Mr. Secretary!,” Gor posted on X.

The remarks come as India and the United States continue to expand diplomatic engagement across trade, defense, energy, critical minerals and emerging technologies.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone about bilateral cooperation and the situation in West Asia. Modi said the two leaders reviewed progress in several areas and discussed ways to further strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

“Received a call from my friend President Donald Trump. We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas,” Modi posted on X after the April 14 call.

“We also discussed the situation in West Asia and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure,” he added.

Gor also hosted Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at the White House during Misri’s official visit to the United States last month. In a post on X, Gor said Misri had a productive meeting with Rubio focused on the bilateral relationship, including trade, critical minerals, defense and the Quad.

“Welcome to the White House Vikram Misri! Productive meeting with Marco Rubio that focused on our bilateral relationship, especially trade, critical minerals, defense and the Quad. Secretary Rubio looks forward to visiting India next month!” Gor wrote.

India and the United States have been working to deepen cooperation in strategic sectors, including energy, critical technologies and defense, as both governments seek closer alignment on regional and global priorities. (Source: IANS)
