Two Gujrati Poets Bring an Entertaining Evening “Mehfil” to Burlington, MA

BURLINGTON, MA—After performing at two sold-out shows in Washington, DC and San Francisco, two Gujarati poets—one of them a Bostonian—are brining their entertaining evening “Mehfil” to Burlington on July 27th at the Academy of Creative Arts.

Bostonian Chandrakant (Chandu) Shah and Shobhit Desai are the two poets who have won the hearts and minds of Gujaratis in India and the United States. They will perform at 8:00 PM on July 27th at the Academy of Creative Arts in Burlington, MA.

After Burlington, the duo is scheduled to perform in Chicago, New York and Atlanta.

Mr. Shah, a local resident and an entrepreneur, is regarded as  one of the most dynamic modern Gujarati poets depicting the life of Indians in the United States, a true poet of Indian Daispora. He is also a playwright and lyricist having written two longest running musical plays in Gujarti “Khelaiya” based on Broadway musical (The Fantasticks) and “Eva Mumbai Ma Chaal Jaiye (West Side story).

Mr. Shah is also an actor who performed one man show on Life of Kavi Narmad and was invited by the Gujarat Government in 1999 to perform in all major cities of Gujarat. A screenplay writer for movies like Saptapadii and Quarter Life Crisis.

In addition, Mr. Shah has published two books of poetry: Ane Thoda Sapna and Blue Jeans. He has been awarded Bhanuprasad Pandya award and Chanchi Mehta award for his writings.

At Mehfil, Mr. Shah will be joined by Shobhit Desai, a contemporary poet and Gazalkar and also an encyclopedia of Gujarati literature. He will entertain with some interesting anecdotes of different poets.

Mr. Desai has performed a one-man show on writings of Ghalib, and has published four books. He is also an accomplished singer. For his writings, he has been given ‘Shayda’ and ‘Priyadarshi’ award and also has been honored by House of Lords in UK as “poet of the year.”
