Washington– U.S. President Donald Trump has officially launched a new immigration initiative aimed at wealthy foreigners, offering a pathway to permanent residency in exchange for a $5 million payment to the government. Known as the “gold card,” the program was unveiled Wednesday through a newly launched government-backed website, where interested individuals can register to join the waiting list.

“For five million dollars, the Trump card is coming,” Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social. “Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a beautiful road in gaining access to the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World.”

Touted as a premium alternative to the existing EB-5 investor visa, the gold card promises expedited access to U.S. permanent residency for high-net-worth individuals and those with exceptional talents. Trump described the program as offering “green card privileges plus,” emphasizing its exclusive appeal.

Despite the high-profile launch, the gold card is not yet available for immediate application. The program’s website currently allows users only to submit their contact details to be notified when the application process officially opens. “Enter your information below to be notified the moment access opens,” reads the site’s homepage message.

Trump clarified that the gold card does not grant automatic U.S. citizenship. “It’s somewhat like a green card, but at a higher level of sophistication,” he said. “It’s a road to citizenship for people—essentially people of wealth or people of great talent.”

According to reports by USA Today, while the $5 million payment qualifies applicants for permanent residency, it does not bypass the legal and residency requirements needed for citizenship.

The program is part of Trump’s broader push for what he terms “merit-based immigration,” an approach focused on attracting skilled professionals and investors rather than relying on traditional immigration pathways. The gold card initiative aligns with that vision, positioning the United States as a destination for global talent and capital while maintaining strict immigration controls. (Source: IANS)
