Sonu Nigam Clarifies Viral Video Reacting to Salman Khan’s Singing Was Edited
Mumbai — Playback singer Sonu Nigam has clarified that a viral video appearing to show him reacting to Salman Khan’s singing was fabricated by combining clips from separate videos.
Nigam addressed the video Thursday in an Instagram post, saying his reaction had originally been to a young Pakistani girl singing and was later edited together with a clip of Salman performing “Main Hoon Hero Tera.”
“Can expect the unexpected on internet. I stumbled upon this edited video. This was my reaction for a Pakistani little girl singer,” Nigam wrote.
Nigam and Salman have a long professional association dating back to the 1990s. Among their collaborations is “Jaane Kya Hua Hai,” which featured Salman and included vocals by Nigam.
Reports of tensions between the two surfaced in the mid-2010s, around the time “Main Hoon Hero Tera” was released with Salman providing the vocals.
Nigam has previously spoken about actors singing in Bollywood, saying he respects performers who explore music while also emphasizing that professional singing requires years of training, practice and dedication.
He has at times questioned the trend of actors recording songs when professional playback singers are available, arguing that singing requires a specialized skill set and its own form of emotional expression.
Nigam’s latest clarification, however, makes clear that the viral reaction video involving Salman’s song was edited and did not reflect the original context of his remarks. (Source: IANS)
