Epson, NH– With higher heating prices expected for this winter season, there is even more reason for consumers to take action now to ensure their heating equipment is running safely and efficiently. Home and business owners are feeling the chill of fall, and some may have turned on their furnaces these past few days.

Home iageIf your home or business uses propane to generate heat or run appliances, there are a few simple steps you can take to keep your family safe and warm while ensuring that your home is buttoned up to save you money on energy.

This coming winter is currently forecasting to be colder than average in the Northeast. Propane consumers can minimize the use of energy and maximize their families’ safety by properly maintaining their equipment and winterizing their homes to keep the heat where it belongs – indoors.

Joe Rose, President of the Propane Gas Association of New England, recommends consumers call their propane company now for a gas appliance system check and tune-up to minimize consumption this coming winter. “While completing the tune-up, the licensed professional technician may be able to recommend other ways the consumer can reduce energy consumption in the home.  While the technician is there make sure a complete leak check is done of the entire propane system.”

It is important to have your propane equipment checked and tuned-up by a licensed professional propane technician, especially if your equipment has been sitting unused for the summer months.

In addition to servicing your equipment, the Propane Gas Association of New England recommends consumers button up their homes as winter approaches by:

  • Checking caulking around doors and windows
  • Getting storm windows in place and secure early in the fall
  • Checking insulation in the attic and basements
  • Sealing air leaks around openings where plumbing or electrical wiring goes through walls, floors and ceilings

These simple measures can reduce energy consumption significantly, and make your home safer and more comfortable this winter season. The efficiency of propane also makes it an ideal fuel for water heaters, fireplaces, clothes dryers, and cooking appliances.

Propane is a clean, efficient, American-made fuel used by millions of Americans at home, at work, on the road, and on the farm.
