Shreya Ghoshal Revisits ‘Bairi Piya’ With New Song
Mumbai — Singer Shreya Ghoshal is revisiting a phrase closely tied to the beginning of her Hindi film career with a new song titled “Bairi Piya.”
Ghoshal made her Bollywood playback debut with “Bairi Piya” from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 film “Devdas,” starring Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Announcing the new track on Instagram, Ghoshal said the original song remains an important part of her journey as a singer.
“‘Bairi Piya’ was the song that became such an important part of my journey as a singer, and today, years later, I am returning to this phrase with a song of my own,” she wrote.
Ghoshal described the upcoming release as deeply personal and reflective of her growth as an artist.
“This song is deeply personal, born from the artist I was, the artist I have become and a desire to explore a side of myself that feels freer and more instinctive. Feels like a beautiful full-circle moment,” she wrote.
The song is scheduled to be released on Sept. 25.
“Devdas,” directed by Bhansali, is based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1917 Bengali novel of the same name. The film also featured Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, Kirron Kher, Smita Jaykar and Vijayendra Ghatge.
Bhansali discovered Ghoshal after her appearance on the music reality show “Sa Re Ga Ma.” She was 16 when she recorded songs for “Devdas.”
Ghoshal recorded five songs for the film, including “Dola Re Dola” and “Silsila Ye Chahat Ka,” with “Bairi Piya” being the first song she recorded for the project. (Source: IANS)
