Shankar Mahadevan Lights Up the Stage with Berklee Indian Ensemble and Guests Artists

BOSTON–On Tuesday night, Shankar Mahadevan and the Berklee Indian Ensemble brought dance, art, music and joy to a full house at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston.

The Indian Ensemble, a dynamic group of Berklee students representing various countries throughout the world, studied the artist’s work throughout the semester and capped it off with a sold-out show featuring Mahadevan on lead vocals.

The night also featured dances to select songs from Boston Bollywood LLC’s Meera Seshadri and Swati Tiwari, along with a live painting demonstration from Indian visual artist Vilas Nayak during two numbers.

Mahadevan visited Boston as artist in residence at Berkelee College of Music  and performed with the Berklee Indian Ensemble in the group’s sold-out Berklee Signature Series concert .The concert was produced by Annette Philip and Clint Valladares , artistic and managing directors of the Berklee India Exchange, which serves as a platform for cultural conversation about Indian music through artist residencies, musical collaborations, and performances.

Mahadevan is a four-time winner of the National Award: three times for Best Male Playback Singer and once for Best Music Director, according to Wikipedia. He is also the founder of the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, which provides online music lessons in Indian music for students in 67 countries.
