WASHINGTON, D.C. — Seattle University, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India in Seattle, hosted a briefing on the AI India Impact Summit 2026, spotlighting India’s approach to artificial intelligence as a driver of social good, sustainability, and inclusive economic growth.

The event, held Monday at the Casey Commons Conference Hall on the Seattle University campus, drew a strong turnout of students and senior faculty. Discussions centered on the summit’s theme, “People, Planet, and Progress,” and offered an overview of India’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Organizers outlined how India is aligning its AI strategy with national development priorities, including sustainable growth and broader economic inclusion. The session aimed to familiarize students and academics with India’s evolving role in global AI policy, governance, and innovation.

Matt Oppenheimer, Chief Executive Officer of Remitly, delivered the keynote address, speaking about the company’s investments in India’s AI-driven future. He highlighted Remitly’s operations in Bengaluru and cited benefits from India’s reforms related to ease of doing business.

Onur Bakiner, Professor of Political Science at Seattle University and Director of its Technology Ethics Initiative, also addressed the gathering. He spoke about the ethical and governance challenges posed by rapid advances in artificial intelligence, as well as the opportunities the technology presents for societies and economies.

In his address, the Consul General of India in Seattle outlined preparations for the AI India Impact Summit 2026 and described the profile of the high-level delegation from the Greater Seattle area expected to participate.

The event marked the second in a series of pre-summit briefings planned across the Greater Seattle region. An earlier session was held on November 7, 2025, at the Consulate General of India in Seattle for members of the U.S. Congress and senior technology executives.

That briefing included participation by U.S. Representatives Adam Smith and Michael Baumgartner, along with representatives from Microsoft, Salesforce, and Anicca Data Science Solutions.

The AI India Impact Summit is expected to convene policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and civil society representatives to discuss the responsible and inclusive use of artificial intelligence. (Source: IANS)
