NEW DELHI– India wrapped up a dominant 2-0 Test series victory over the West Indies on Tuesday, clinching the second match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium by seven wickets. KL Rahul anchored the fourth-innings chase with an unbeaten 58 off 108 balls, guiding the hosts to their 10th consecutive Test win over the Caribbean side.
India took just an hour on the final morning to reach the 121-run target, sealing their first Test series win under new captain Shubman Gill. The victory also earned India 12 World Test Championship points, consolidating their third-place position with a points percentage of 61.9.
Though the final scoreline suggests a comfortable result, the West Indies put up spirited resistance. Following on after a first-innings deficit of 270, openers John Campbell and Shai Hope struck centuries, while a stubborn 79-run last-wicket partnership pushed the match into the fifth day.
Resuming play at 24 for one, India kept things steady through Rahul and B Sai Sudharsan. After four maiden overs, Sudharsan broke the shackles by lofting Jomel Warrican over mid-off. Rahul then took charge, stepping out to lift Khary Pierre for six and whipping him through midwicket for another boundary.
Sudharsan fell for 39 after a sharp diving catch by Shai Hope at slip off Roston Chase, but Rahul’s composure anchored India’s pursuit. He brought up his fifty with a deft sweep and followed it up with a reverse sweep for four. Gill chipped in with a quick 22, including a towering six over long-on, before falling to Chase.
Dhruv Jurel joined Rahul to complete the chase, with Rahul finishing the match in style by punching a boundary through the off side.
It was a clinical display from India across departments. Kuldeep Yadav starred with the ball, taking eight wickets in the match on a slow Delhi surface, while Jasprit Bumrah provided crucial breakthroughs with figures of 3 for 44 in the second innings.
Despite the loss, the West Indies earned praise for their resilience after suffering an innings defeat in Ahmedabad. But India’s depth, discipline, and all-round quality once again proved decisive.
