LOWELL, MA– Over 475 volunteers from BAPS Charities earlier this month attended Walk Green in Lowell, MA, and raise $165,000 to benefit The Nature Conservancy.
“This is the third year that theBAPS Charities Walkathon will benefit The Nature Conservancy and their efforts to conserve land and water on earth, thereby better sustaining life for upcoming generations,” BAPS Charities said in a statement. “BAPS Charities will contribute $165,000, an equivalent of planting 130,000 trees, to The Nature Conservancy to support their initiative to plant a billion trees globally by 2025.”
In addition to supporting this global effort, this year’s BAPS Charities Walkathon also supported Merrimack Valley Food Bank within the community. The Merrimack Valley Food Bank aims to distribute food to individuals and families in need throughout eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Merrimack Valley Food Bank manages four million pounds of food donations annually.
“Since my early childhood I have been participating, raising funds for this walkathon and have come to realize the importance it plays in helping local and national causes. With this year again, I feel rewarded that our fundraising efforts have the potential to help improve the planet –many people making a small difference can have a huge impact globally, ”said Jay Patel from Lowell, MA who has participated in the BAPS Charities Walk Green efforts for the past three years.
BAPS Charities uses these opportunities to instill a spirit of service and commitment to preservation and environmental responsibility in community members.
