Obituary: Nishi Nehra of Rhode Island Passes Away at 77

PROVIDENCE, RI—Nishi Nehra, a volunteer for community causes and wife of Ram Nehra of Rhode Island, passed away on Tuesday. She was 67.

Born in Amritsar, India, Nehra was eldest of seven siblings. Her dream was to travel and see the world. After marrying Ram Nehra in 1863, she travelled to Kenya to be with her husband. In 1969, the Nehra family immigrated to San Francisco, Calif.

She had many successful business ventures in Newport, RI—Fantazia, The Paper Lion, and Mall Laundromat. In addition, she was instrumental in building an important fixture in the Indian community: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad children’s camp.

Later on she volunteered for Ekal Vidlyaya, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating children in Indian villages.
