BOSTON—A number of local community organizations have launched a campaign to raise funds in order to help the victims of recent Chennai flood, the city’s worst flood in a century that has killed at least 325 people and left many injured and homeless and millions are affected due to lack of drinking water and power supply.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs.2 lakh each to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the Tamil Nadu floods.
Samford, Conn.-based AmeriCares has deployed medical teams to Tamil Nadu, where relentless flooding has closed schools. In partnership with Indian Medical Association, the AmeriCares team will be in Chennai, Thiruvaloor and Kanchipuram.
Locally, New England Tamil Sangam (NETS) is asking its members and supporters to donate towards the relief efforts. It has extended it support to fundraising efforts by other organizations such as TNFUSA, Udavum Karangal and Sewa International USA.
NETS has set up an online link for donations where any one can donate online using the link below, not just NETS Members. All Donation made through NETS are tax exempted under IRS 501c3 [TaxID: 46-1085035]
