BOSTON–The Liberal Arts and Sciences Department at Berklee College of Music presents Music of the Sitar, a master class presented by the renowned sitarist Pundit Gaurav Mazumdar, accompanied by Amit Kavthekar on Tabla, on March 14, 2023.
The master class will be held at 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the David Friend Recital Hall (DFRH), located at 921 Boylston Street in Boston. The admission is free.
Grammy-nominated virtuoso of the sitar for over 30 years, Gaurav Mazumdar has been offering audiences around the world compelling experiences with one of the world’s most ancient and sacred traditions, Indian classical music.
Like his teacher, the legendary Pt. Ravi Shankar, Mazumdar has numerous collaborations with western musicians such as Daniel Hope and Philip Glass to name a few. His performances have been widely acclaimed and appreciated by audiences at various music festivals and venues all across the globe spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. He is passionate about teaching and devotes a substantial amount of his time to teaching disciples from all over the world. He combines creativity and tradition to bring out the rasa of Indian classical music. He is known for his artistry for breathing life into the raga form.
Amit Kavthekar is a highly sought after tabla player, both as a soloist and an accompanist. He has performed in several prestigious venues and has accompanied several famous artists. Young and talented, he has rhythm running in his veins.
