BOSTON – MassChallenge Boston, a startup accelerator, announced the top 26 startups from its 2016 cohort of 128 startups total. These 26 startups, 35% of which are female-founded, were selected by a panel of expert judges who evaluated each startup based on their potential for impact.
The list includes India-based COEO Labs, a medical technology startup company that develops innovative medical devices with focus on emergency, trauma and critical care.
The top 26 will now move onto the final judging round, where they’ll have the opportunity to win shares of more than $1 million in zero-equity grants. In addition, CASIS and Boeing will award $500,000 to fund research projects on the International Space Station. Winners will be announced at the MassChallenge Awards on November 2nd at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Over the past four months, the 2016 Boston cohort has been working with mentors to refine their businesses, connecting with corporate and nonprofit organizations to explore partnership opportunities, and attending workshops to learn more about product/market fit, pitching, and fundraising.
Now, the top 26 will take what they’ve learned and put it into action to impress industry experts and visionaries, including Sophie Vandebroek, CTO of Xerox and President of Xerox Innovation Group, Joshua Boger, Ph.D., Founder and former CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Desh Deshpande, Trustee of Deshpande Foundation and President and Chairman of Sparta Group LLC, and more.
More than 1,500 startup enthusiasts and leaders from the global innovation ecosystem are anticipated to attend the November 2nd event to celebrate the winners. In addition to unveiling these startups, the MassChallenge Awards will also welcome Chobani Founder & CEO Hamdi Ulukaya as the keynote speaker.
