Ishan Kishan Says He Is Proud to Wear India Jersey Again After Match-Winning Ton Against Afghanistan

New Delhi — Ishan Kishan said he felt proud to wear the India jersey again after marking his return to the ODI side with a match-winning century against Afghanistan in Lucknow.
The left-handed batter smashed 125 off 79 balls in the second ODI at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, helping India secure a 170-run victory and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Kishan’s innings, which included 14 fours and seven sixes, came alongside a brilliant 154 from captain Shubman Gill. The pair added 224 runs for the third wicket after Rohit Sharma had given India a strong start with a fluent 48.
Their partnership powered India to 402, putting the match out of Afghanistan’s reach.
Reflecting on his return to the national side, Kishan said playing for India again meant more to him than personal milestones.
“I feel very proud right now because I’m wearing this jersey after a long time. More than that, I’m just happy to be in this tremendous side because all the players here are experienced, young. It’s all a mixture of everything. So, just looking up to make India win more matches,” Kishan said in a BCCI video.
Kishan started steadily before accelerating and reaching his century in 71 balls. His aggressive strokeplay kept India’s run rate high through the middle overs before Afghanistan picked up late wickets.
Despite the century, Kishan said his focus remains on contributing consistently and helping his teammates whenever he gets an opportunity.
“I think it never ends for us as athletes. We just keep on playing. So, I’m just looking to be helping each teammate of mine and just trying to put up a good show every time I go in with this jersey on me,” he said. (Source: IANS)
