LEXINGTON, MA—The Indian Americans of Lexington (IAL), a civic community group in Lexington, MA, announced that it will host its second annual workshop on “College and Career: Multiple Pathways to Success” on Saturday, June 10th , at the Lexington High School Commons 2.
The IAL Youth Affairs & School Committee, riding on the success of the inaugural workshop in 2016, will bring Lexington High School (LHS) seniors and alumni, professionals and experts, interested students and parents together to showcase multiple pathways to success, IAL said in a statement.
Manjula Karamcheti, LHS Assistant/K-12 Director of Guidance will deliver the keynote address and Jamie Katz, LYFS Vice President will moderate the panel discussion followed by more interactive breakout sessions. Speakers from current LHS students as well as alumni will share how they have navigated the transitions from high school to college to career in a successful and healthy way. The workshop will also feature professionals talking on different ways to be successful while remaining balanced as well as how to reduce stress and achieve emotional well-being.
Manasi Singhal, Co-Chair of the IALYouth Affairs committee emphasized that the most important reason for these workshops is to “learn from each other as a community of the many different ways we can achieve our goals.”
Last year, participants Deep Ray and Ratna Sen, whose daughter attended LHS summed up the workshop: “We appreciate very much IAL organizing the workshop. As our child stands on the threshold of high school, the myths associated with Lexington High School, taking AP classes, writing college applications and getting into a ‘dream’ college have been front and center for us, just like I am sure with other families in our situation. We sincerely appreciate the candor with which the panelists shared their individual stories, their struggles and successes. Our child attended the event and we think the stories we have all heard would be very helpful in planning her and our high school journey.”
This event is organized in partnership with Lexington High School, LYFS: Sponsor of Sources of Strength, CAAL, KoLex, the Japanese Community, and Temple Isaiah Mental Health Committee. The event is geared for 7th, 8th grade and high school students and will be held from 10 am to 1 pm.
