BOSTON – The India Association of Greater Boston, which earlier this year announced that it is moving traditional India Day celebrations from Hatch Shell to Boston’s City Hall Plaza, unveiled new details about the expanded day-long event. India Day commemorates the celebration of India’s Independence Day.
“Traditionally, the focus of this event has been a presentation of cultural performances,” IAGB said in a statement. At the City Hall Plaza on Aug. 19, the day will be broken up into three main segments.
“The first segment will launch the first-ever IAGB’s Got Talent event. Solo and group entries will be accepted and selection for performance will be based on combination of online public voting and IAGB team evaluation,” the statement said. “The second segment will be the traditional cultural performances segment. The third segment will be free-form field games that we all grew up enjoying, such as lemon-spoon, three-legged races, balloon throw for participants of all ages.”
Participation in IAGB’s Got Talent and Cultural Performances is free for all IAGB members and field games are free for all attendees.
IAGB said that the new sprawling venue offers a built-in stage and an open area that enables a variety of activities and attractions, including easy access to public transportation and Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, the Freedom Trail along with multiple parking options.
Surrounding the activity will be the vibrant exhibition booths from various corners of the community.
“Commensurate with the venue, we have designed competitive options for our local advertisers and exhibitors, including early bird options till June 30th,” said the statement. “Also different at this India Day Festival is the Indian food mela. The venue offers opportunities to all restaurants and licensed food vendors to sell their unique and sumptuous Indian delicacies.”
