BURLINGTON, MA –As India Association of Greater Boston, a non-profit community organization known as IAGB, gets ready to host its annual Republic Day celebration on Jan. 30 in Burlington, MA, IAGB President Jaya Voruganti talks about her vision, new initiatives and new events IAGB plans to organize annually.
In an exclusive video interview with INDIA New England News, Voruganti says that instead of organizing only two of its flagship events—Republic Day and India Day— annually, IAGB plans to host one event each quarter, or four events per year. To watch the interview, please click here.
With a new executive committee and the 501c3 non-profit status, IAGB is launching a number of initiatives, including involvement of youth and trying to create an united voice of the Indian community.
The theme of this year’s event is “Folk Art of India” that will feature folk music and colorful folk dances This year’s annual event, which marks the 66th anniversary of India’s Republic Day, will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Burlington High School, located at 123 Cambridge Street in Burlington, MA.
Admission to the event for IAGB members is free. There is a $5 entrance fee to the auditorium for non-members. The event outside the auditorium (which includes shopping area, booths and food) is free to everyone. Food will be available for purchase. Vendors will have an array of products for sale, including arts and crafts, and information about services. Space for vendor tables is still available for rent.
IAGB hosts this annual event in collaboration with its affiliate Saheli, a support group for South Asian women.
The Indian Republic and its constitution was promulgated on January 26, 1950.The constitution set up India as a secular democracy with equal rights guaranteed for all its citizens, regardless of their religion, language, region or caste.
IAGB, founded in 1962, strives to foster a strong Indian cultural and community presence in the Greater Boston area.
