BOSTON, MA – India’s budding Hindustani classical vocalist Supriyo Dutta is set to perform at the 17th Annual LearnQuest Music Festival, taking place April 19–20, 2025, at the Regis College Auditorium in Weston, MA.

A prominent figure in Indian classical music, Dutta has received training from some of the most revered maestros in the tradition, including Pandit Ramkrishna Basu of the Indore gharana, Padmashri Pandit Vijay Kichlu, and Vidushi Subhra Guha. His musical lineage and deep-rooted training have shaped him into a compelling and expressive performer with a distinctive voice in the Hindustani classical tradition.

Dutta’s contributions to the field have been widely recognized. As a student, he was a National Scholar under India’s Ministry of Culture and has earned multiple prestigious accolades, including the Bijon Ghosh Dastidar Award, the Prasun Bandopadhyay Memorial Award, and honors from the Sarbo-Bharatiya Sangeet O Sanskriti Parishad.

His global presence is equally impressive, having graced stages at major cultural events and festivals around the world. Notable performances include appearances at the Woodford Folk Festival (Australia), Filarmonica Romana, North American Bengali Conference (NABC), and Concerts for Deutsch-Indische Gesellschaft (Germany). He has also toured with Alliance Française, and performed at venues such as India International Centre (New Delhi), ICCR Horizon Series in Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata, as well as events in Rome, Milan, and across Switzerland.

Dutta is more than a performer—he is a dedicated educator and ambassador of Indian classical music. He regularly leads masterclasses, workshops, and academic collaborations both in India and internationally. His teaching extends to schools and universities, where he focuses on vocal training and the intersection of Indian and Western musical traditions. His sessions often include instrumentalists of various genres, fostering a rich dialogue between musical systems.

Among his discography are acclaimed releases such as “Raga Reminiscence” (India) and “Passionate Voice” (Europe). His recent participation in the documentary “Ustad Amir Khan – The Path Breaking Modernist”, produced by Sangeet Ashram, earned the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival Award.

The opening event will take place at the MIT Wong Auditorium in Cambridge, MA, before the festival moves to the Regis College Auditorium in Weston, MA, for the remainder of the three-day celebration (April 19-20).

The festival, a staple in New England’s cultural calendar, highlights both Hindustani and Carnatic classical traditions, bringing together legendary musicians, emerging talents, and devoted music lovers.

This year’s Hindustani lineup features iconic sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan alongside his sons Amaan Ali and Ayaan Ali Bangash, sitar virtuoso Ustad Nishat Khan, and tabla legend Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. The Carnatic roster includes esteemed vocal duo Ranjani-Gayatri, vocalist Saketharaman, the violinist Akkarai Sisters, and mridangam exponent Patri Satish Kumar.

Saturday, April 19 – A Day of Resonance and Rhythm

The festival opens with a stellar lineup, showcasing the best of Karnatic and Hindustani traditions:

Saketharaman brings soulful Carnatic vocals to life, accompanied by the virtuosity of Kamalakiran Vinjamuri on violin, Sai Giridhar on mridangam, and Sowmya Narayanan on ghatam.

Renowned harmonium maestro Ravindra Katoti joins forces with Sumit Naik on tabla to explore the nuanced world of Hindustani melodies.

Acclaimed vocalist Sankari Krishnan will be joined by Raghul Ravichandran (violin), V.S. Raghavan (mridangam), and Nerkunam Sankar (kanjira) for a performance steeped in tradition and vitality.

Supriyo Datta, a celebrated Hindustani vocalist, will be accompanied by Sangeet Mishra on sarangi and Aarchik Banerjee on tabla, blending lyrical devotion with instrumental mastery.

The talented Akkarai SistersSubhalakshmi and Sornalatha, on twin violins, will be joined by mridangam artist K.U. Jaichandra Rao in a stirring display of Carnatic expression.

The evening culminates in a legendary performance by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, the sarod maestro, alongside his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash. Joining them are tabla greats Amit Kavthekar and Anubrata Chatterjee, promising a grand finale steeped in tradition and brilliance.

Sunday, April 20 – A Day of Fusion and Finesse

Sunday continues the musical magic with a diverse array of styles and collaborations:

11:00 AM – Saxophone Trio: A rare East-meets-West ensemble featuring Phil ScarffShishir Kumar, and Priyank Krishna, supported by Anup Banerjee (tabla) and V.S. Raghavan (mridangam).

1:00 PM – Rachna Bodas, a distinguished Hindustani vocalist, will be joined by Nitin Mitta (tabla) and Sangeet Mishra (sarangi), blending soulful gayaki with instrumental dialogue.

3:00 PM – Sanjay Subramanian, a master of Carnatic vocal, will perform with Praveen Sitaram (mridangam) and Pranav Swaroop (violin), offering an exquisite afternoon recital.

4:45 PM – Nishat Khan, sitar maestro and global ambassador of Hindustani music, will mesmerize the audience alongside tabla legend Anindo Chatterjee in a grand finale filled with dazzling improvisation.
