Hindus, Christians and Muslims Celebrate Janamashtmi Together in Lynnfield, MA

LYNNFIELD, MA—A group of Hindus, Christians and Muslims gathered together in Lynnfield, MA to Krishna Janamashtmi, an annual Indian festival that revels the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Hindu God Vishnu.

The event was organized in a Church by the husband and wife team of Jagjit and Ritu Gaind and about 40 Indian-American volunteers of Lynnfield.

Jhanki was decorated by children under the guidance of Vishvajeet. Dr. Manju Sheth, MD, of Lynnfield gave prizes to children who  made the Jhanki.

“It was true community unity of Muslims, Hindus and Christians and all happily participated in cooking, dandia , Pooja, singing,” said Ms. Gaind.

Approximately 200 devotees attended the event, Ms. Gains said.

“Joy and Happiness was the message. Everyone is waiting eagerly for next year celebration,” Ms. Gaind said.

Swati and Mayuresh Kelkar said Sririshna Janmashtami celebration was pure pleasure and the event buzzed with festive joy.

“We and our son loved the delicious treats, music, and dandiya dancing. Participating in blissful Pooja rituals followed by traditional Aarti was an authentic experience.  We took pride in upholding traditions.  All in all, a special night,” said Kelkars.

Jharna Madan, a New Hampshire resident who attended the event, said this Janmashtmi celebration was one the most beautiful and soul lifting events.

“Organized in a church and having all communities Hindu, Muslim and Christians  come together to celebrate the birth of Kanha was a surreal experience,” Ms. Madan said. “This was a celebration of love, togetherness and Bhakti. My heart was so proud and happy to be part of such an exceptional Event. My heartfelt thanks to Ritu Ji and Gaind Sahab . I sincerely hope this becomes an annual event.”
