Harris Slams Trump’s State of the Union as “Full of Lies”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, calling it “full of lies” and accusing him of misleading Americans on the economy, voting rights, and U.S. policy toward Iran.

Speaking a day after Trump’s address on “The Parnas Perspective,” a Substack show hosted by Aaron Parnas, Harris said she watched the speech and found it disconnected from the realities facing many American families.

“I watched it. It was full of lies,” Harris said. “And, you know, when he wasn’t lying… it reminded me of our kids going to show and tell at school.”

She rejected Trump’s claim that the state of the union is strong, saying many Americans are struggling with rising costs.

“Absolutely not,” Harris said. “So many are suffering under the weight of high prices, unaffordable health care, unaffordable housing.”

Harris cited recent visits to southern states, describing a conversation with a mother in Mississippi who has a weekly grocery budget of $150 for a family of four. She said the woman told her that anything she bought was for her children and that she would eat “whatever they don’t eat.”

“She walked over to get bottled water because she can’t drink tap water because the water is brown and toxic,” Harris said. “This is America.”

Harris also criticized what she described as the administration’s proposed spending priorities, questioning deep cuts to social programs alongside tax relief for wealthy Americans.

“Who’s it roaring for when you put a $1 trillion cut to Medicaid?” she asked. “Meanwhile, a $1 trillion tax cut for the richest people in America. That’s what’s happening in our country right now.”

On voting rights, Harris strongly opposed the SAVE Act, which Trump has urged Congress to pass. She said the measure would require people to present a birth certificate or passport to register to vote and claimed that a significant share of Americans do not have such documents.

“Absolutely not,” she said, arguing that the proposal is part of broader efforts “to suppress and obstruct the ability of people to vote.” She warned that “powerful forces” are “intentionally attempting to destroy our democracy and the voice of the people.”

Turning to foreign policy, Harris expressed concern over rising tensions with Iran. She criticized Trump’s previous claims about dismantling Iran’s nuclear program, calling them “complete and utter BS.”

“And now he is sending American troops to the region with the very real potential that American men and women will be deployed to combat,” she said. Harris added that Americans do not want another war and that U.S. allies do not support what she described as the president’s approach, warning that weakening alliances could undermine national security.

Asked about the 2024 presidential election, which Trump won, Harris said she has regrets but is focused on the present.

“Oh, I have many regrets. I mean, I wrote a book about it, right?” she said. “My focus is not on what could have been as much as what we need to do right now.”

The State of the Union address is an annual speech delivered by the president to Congress outlining legislative priorities and assessing the nation’s condition. Attention is now turning to the 2026 midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress and are widely seen as a referendum on the president’s agenda. (Source: IANS)
