ACTON, MA—Essence of India presents Celebrations of Cultures on Aug. 19 in Acton, and will include cultural collaborations and stage performances of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. In addition, the outdoor program will magic show, kite flying, mixed performances, henna, food, Jewelry and interactive cultural, arts and crafts booths.
The program will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 2:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Amphitheater at NARA Park in Acton, MA. The event is free to all attendees. For more information, visit: EssenceofIndia.org
The event is partly sponsored by the Town of Acton, MCC festival grant, cultural councils of Acton-Boxborough, Concord, Chelmsford, Carlisle, Littleton and Westford and Masala Bay.
Essence of India is a series of seven cultural events held at NARA Park– in collaboration with town and several local cultural councils.
“Our sixth event this year is scheduled to be held on Sat, 8/19 from 2-7.30p.m. The event is free to the public and participants. The event has been consistently attended by an average of 2500 people each year,” Sunanda Sahay, one of the key organizers of the program, said in a statement. “Concord Cultural Council nominated Essence of India for the Gold Star award in 2016 and the Mass Cultural Council awarded it to us. Essence of India was the event of the year in 2016.”
After two successful collaborations with China and Pakistan in the last two years, organizers this year are collaborating with Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
“We will share the stage for performance and will have the culture booths to showcase the traditions of the participating countries in an effort to create cultural bridges between the communities that live mostly unnoticed among us,” Sahay said.
She said the program highlight in 2016 was the game of Cricket between India and Pakistan.
“This year our highlight is a magic show. Our kite booth is ever popular and back again this year, and so are several art, craft, culture, henna, jewelry and spice booths. There will be a variety of ethnic foods to purchase,” Sahay said.
