Ekal Boston Hosts ‘UTSAV’ Fundraiser Featuring New ‘Bhajan Clubbing’ Format

Fundraiser introduces contemporary devotional music format to support Ekal Vidyalaya's rural development programs in India

BOSTON — The Boston chapter of Ekal Vidyalaya USA hosted UTSAV – Bhajan Clubbing for a Purpose, a fundraising event that combined devotional music, community participation, and philanthropy to support Ekal’s rural development programs in India.

The event introduced what organizers called “Bhajan Clubbing,” a format that presents traditional devotional songs in a contemporary musical style designed to engage audiences of all ages. Attendees sang, danced, and participated in the program while learning about Ekal Vidyalaya’s educational and community development initiatives in rural and tribal regions of India.

The featured performers were members of the Rangrez Band, who presented a selection of devotional songs with modern musical arrangements. Their performance encouraged audience participation and served as the centerpiece of the event.

According to organizers, the event was designed to create a new way for families, young professionals, and community members to connect with Indian cultural traditions while supporting charitable work.

“We wanted to create an experience that would bring together families, youth, and seniors in a shared celebration of faith, music, and service,” said Manisha Kumar, Co-President of Ekal Boston.

Arushee Divyakirti, also Co-President of Ekal Boston, said the organization developed the concept as a way to introduce a new fundraising and community engagement model.

“We knew we were introducing something entirely new,” Divyakirti said. “The response showed that people are looking for different ways to connect with culture, spirituality, and charitable causes.”

The event also highlighted the work of Ekal Vidyalaya, one of the largest nonprofit organizations focused on rural and tribal development in India. The organization supports programs in education, healthcare, skill development, women’s empowerment, and sustainable village development.

Throughout the program, attendees received information about Ekal’s work in villages across India, where access to educational and community resources remains limited. Funds raised during the event will support the organization’s ongoing development initiatives.

Manisha Jain, Executive Director of Ekal USA, said community engagement plays an important role in advancing the organization’s mission.

“Through music, faith, and community, people connected to a larger purpose and became partners in Ekal’s mission of empowering rural India,” Jain said.

Organizers credited volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and supporters for helping coordinate the event. They also recognized the Rangrez Band for contributing its time and talent to support the fundraiser.

Many attendees expressed interest in seeing the program continue as an annual event. Organizers said they hope to build on the success of the inaugural UTSAV and further expand community participation in support of Ekal’s programs.

Ekal Vidyalaya USA supports educational and development initiatives serving rural and tribal communities throughout India through a network of volunteers, donors, and community partners.
