PATNA– Police in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, have arrested two men in connection with the abduction and gang rape of a minor Dalit girl, officials confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred in the Aurai police station area, where the teenage girl was reported missing on July 26. According to her family, she had left home around 11 a.m. to have her mobile phone repaired but never returned.
“I searched all night but couldn’t find her,” the girl’s father said. “On Sunday around 2 p.m., we were informed she had been admitted in critical condition to a hospital in Sitamarhi.”
Investigators stated that the girl was allegedly lured by a local mobile shop owner and his associate. When she resisted their advances, the two men abducted her in a car, drove her to a highway location, and sexually assaulted her. They later took her to the Pupri area in neighboring Sitamarhi district and left her unconscious in a remote area.
She was found severely injured and unconscious, with significant head trauma. Sitamarhi police admitted her to Sadar Hospital, and due to the seriousness of her condition, she was referred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, where she remains in critical condition. Doctors reported major head injuries and said she received 10 stitches. A neurosurgeon has been consulted.
A formal complaint was registered at the Aurai police station on July 27. The accused — identified as Ganesh Kumar Shah, the shop owner, and Pintu Sharma — were arrested shortly afterward.
“Due to her unconscious state, the victim has not been able to give a statement,” said Sahriyar Akhtar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (East), Muzaffarpur. “Both accused were detained promptly. Further legal proceedings are underway.”
The incident has sparked public outrage and raised renewed concerns about the safety of girls and women, particularly in marginalized communities. Police have promised swift and strict action. (Source: IANS)
