Asha Bhosle Laid to Rest with Full State Honours; Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Others Bid Farewell

The legendary singer was cremated at Shivaji Park with a ceremonial guard of honour, as leading film stars, musicians, and political leaders gathered in Mumbai to pay their final respects.

Mumbai–The last rites of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle were performed with full state honours at Shivaji Park on Monday, marking the final farewell to one of Indian music’s most iconic voices.

Her mortal remains were carried from her residence in Lower Parel to the crematorium in Dadar, with the tricolour draped over her casket as she was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour earlier in the day.

A large gathering from the film, music, political, and business communities assembled to pay their last respects. Among those present were Bollywood actors Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, and Vivek Oberoi, along with singers Anup Jalota and Shaan, filmmaker Ramesh Sippy, and actors Padmini Kolhapure and Helen.

Political leaders including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and senior leaders Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray also paid their respects.

At the singer’s residence earlier in the day, several emotional scenes were witnessed as family members and close associates mourned. Actress Poonam Dhillon was seen breaking down while offering condolences, while Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter Zanai Bhosle was visibly emotional as she received visitors.

Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92 after being admitted to Breach Candy Hospital following multiple medical complications. Her death was confirmed by Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar.

Over a career spanning more than eight decades, Bhosle received numerous honours, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, cementing her legacy as one of the greatest voices in Indian music history. (Source: IANS)
