NORTHBOROUGH, MA–Sankara Healthcare Foundation is organizing a Carnatic vocal concert by O.S. Thiagarajan and Trissur C. Narendran this Friday/June 2, in Northborough, MA. They will be accompanied by Vidwan Trissur, C. Narendran on Mridangam, with violin accompaniment by Suhas Rao.

About the Artists
Vidwan O.S. Thyagarajan, This great musician is a classicist of traditional outfit who paints in glorious colors the fine shades of raga, kriti and swara in his numerous concerts. An A-top graded artist of the All India Radio and of Doordarshan, he has been giving a large number of concerts well appreciated and relished. He is regularly featured by all leading sabhas in Chennai as well as throughout India and has toured many countries, including U.S.A, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Middle East, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Africa, and many cities in Europe. He worked as Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, Annamalai University for 5 years. He has trained many disciples through out the world.
Suhas Rao is an accomplished Carnatic musician and one of the top violinists of the younger generation in the US. He got introduced to Carnatic music when he came under the tutelage of Smt. Tara Anand, an award winning teacher in the New England area, at the age of six. He also had his vocal training with Smt. Geetha Murali, a renowned Carnatic vocalist in the area. He underwent rigorous training under these gurus for more than 12 years and started performing at the age of 12. In addition, he has received advanced training in Chennai from stalwarts like Sri Chitravina N. Ravikiran, Prof. T.R. Subramaniam, and Smt. A. Kanyakumari. He has won many awards and prizes in all major competitions in the U.S. like Cleveland Aradhana and CMANA of NJ, including the Gottuvadyam Narayana Iyengar award for creativity. In 2007, he was awarded the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council to further his training in Carnatic violin, and was featured in the Keepers of Tradition exhibit at the National Heritage Museum. Suhas has performed in concerts throughout the U.S. and in India as both a solo artist and an accompanist, performing with eminent artists like Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. R.K. Srikantan, Sri Chitravina N. Ravikiran, and Sangeetha Kalanidhi Prof. Trichy Sankaran. Suhas graduated from Harvard University and is currently in MD-PhD program in Stanford Medical School.
Thrissur C. Narendran is a renowned Mridangam artiste from Kerala, India. Born in a family of musicians and scholars, Narendran was initiated into an early training in Mridangam by Sri Kongorppilly Parameswaran Namboodiri . After early training from David Bhagavathar, E.P. Narayana Pisharodi and Koduvayur Radhakrishnan, Narendran had the rarest privileges to be one of the early disciples of Padmashri Palghat R. Raghu from whom he learnt the finer and the most intricate techniques of mridangam playing. Shri Narendran’s intricate rhythmic patterns, sense of proportion, sharp anticipation, short & carefully thought out phases of silence, and the ability to give the Mridangam the much-needed soft touch make him a class apart. Narendran has accompanied more than five generations of musicians, from legends Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Palghat K.V. Narayanaswamy to present day stars Sanjay Subramaniam, T.M. Krishna, Sashank, Bombay Jayashree among others.
