Manisha, Lisa Ray to star in Rahman’s ’99 Songs’

Mumbai– Actresses Manisha Koirala and Lisa Ray will be seen in Grammy and Oscar winning composer A.R. Rahmans upcoming film “99 Songs”.

Rahman, who has co-produced and written the script of the film, took to Facebook on Wednesday to reveal the cast of the movie.

Directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, “99 Songs” will also feature Raghu Ram and newcomers Ehan Bhat, Edilsy Varghese and Tenzin Dalha.

Earlier, Rahman had shared that the lead couple of the film — Ehan and Edilsy — was chosen from around 1,000 auditions and the movie will have 10 to 12 tracks.

“For the past couple of years, we have taken the time necessary to hold around 1,000 auditions so that we could find the right boy and girl. I think we have found those special people who have brought freshness and talent to the screen,” Rahman wrote.

Surveen shopped for her clothes for ‘Haq Se’

Mumbai– Actress Surveen Chawla shopped for her own clothes for her role in the web series “Haq Se”.

Surveen essays the role of a Muslim girl Meher in the ALTBalaji show. She will be seen in a de-glam avatar.

She plays a paediatrician in the show, and keeping the intricate details of her character in mind, Surveen worked on her make-up and costumes, and shopped for the traditional clothes and shawls from the local markets of Kashmir.

“When I read the script of ‘Haq Se’, I immediately had a mental picture what my character would look like. I spoke to the makers and went shopping for clothes in the local bazaars of Kashmir. The experience was like a prep before the shoot started. I enjoyed bargaining and got stuff at an affordable price,” Surveen said in a statement.

Directed by Ken Ghosh, “Haq Se” explores the ambitions and dreams of four Kashmiri sisters and how they are bound down by their geographical situation and the rising fundamentalism in the region.

The series also features Rajeev Khandelwal, Parul Gulati, Simone Singh, Rukhsar, Aanchal Sharma, Nikeesha Rangwala, Pavail Gulati and Karanvir Sharma.

Couldn’t do ‘Kesari’ with Salman: Akshay

Mumbai– Actor Akshay Kumar says he and superstar Salman Khan couldnt work on “Kesari” together but he is making the film with filmmaker Karan Johar.

Akshay was present at the launch of PVR Icon with Kamal Gianchandani, CEO, PVR Pictures, on Thursday here.

Salman had teamed up with Akshay for a project in which the latter was to play the hero. Salman was to co-produce it with Karan.

Asked to comment on Salman backing out of the project “Kesari”, Akshay said: “Yes, we couldn’t do it. I am making the film with Karan Johar and that’s it.”

What’s the film’s progress?

Akshay said: “The title has been finalised as ‘Kesari’. I will start working on the film in January. We will be continuously shooting for it after the release of ‘Padman’.”

“Kesari” will be based on Battle of Saragarhi.

Asked about “Padman” clashing with Neeraj Pandey’s “Aiyaary” at the box office on January 26 next year, Akshay said: “Both the films are absolutely different from each other. Neeraj Pandey (director) is a dear friend.

“And, yes, this word ‘clash’ has actually come from media. We have no problem in releasing films. There are around 4,000-5,000 screens in India and my film is screened in 2,800 screens. I think it’s fair enough.”

KJo once asked me for love advice: Katrina

Mumbai– Actress Katrina Kaif, who has worked with Karan Johar in films like “Agneepath” and “Baar Baar Dekho”, says the filmmaker once asked her for love advice.

Karan is currently hosting the show “Calling Karan” on 104.8 Ishq FM wherein he guides callers to take the best possible route in a bid to solve their relationship issues.

“I haven’t had a chance to seek relationship advice from him (Karan), but he has once asked me for love advice and I happily helped,” Katrina said in a statement.

On the work front, Katrina is currently gearing up for the release of her action thriller film “Tiger Zinda Hai”.

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the movie also features superstar Salman Khan. It will hit the screens on Friday.

I’ve choreographed my songs: Urvashi

Dubai– Actress Urvashi Rautela, who has done item numbers in films like “Bhaag Johnny”, “Sanam Re” and “Kaabil”, says she has herself choreographed many of her dance performances.

Urvashi tweeted on Wednesday a video of her dance performance at the T10 cricket league in Dubai.

“Not many people know that in the past, I’ve choreographed many of my songs and have been doing it since childhood,” Urvashi wrote alongside the video.

She later shared details about her performance at the cricket league.

“Performing Arabic dance for my lovely Dubai fans. Raqs sharqi (Egyptian style of belly dance), literally — an Arab expressive dance which originated in Egypt and that emphasises complex movements of the torso.

“It has evolved to take many different forms depending on the country and region, both in costume and dance style. T10 cricket league,” she added.

On the film front, Urvashi will be seen in “Hate Story 4” alongside Sooraj Pancholi, Karan Wahi and Gulshan Grover. (IANS)
