Irrfan suffering from ‘rare disease’
Mumbai– Actor Irrfan Khan says he is suffering from a rare disease and is fighting for choices.
Last month, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj had announced that he was pushing back his film, starring Deepika Padukone and Irrfan.
“I am pushing back the film by a few months as both of my lead actors are down with different health problems. Irrfan is down with jaundice,” the filmmaker had said.
Now, Irrfan has shared that he has a rare disease and has requested people not to speculate.
“Sometimes you wake up with a jolt with life shaking you up. The last 15 days, my life has been a suspense story. Little had I known that my search for rare stories would make me find a rare disease,” Irrfan tweeted on Monday.
“I have never given up and have always fought for my choices and always will. My family and friends are with me and we are working it out the best way possible. In trying times, please don’t speculate as I will myself share with you my story within a week – 10 days, when further investigations come with a conclusive diagnosis. Till then, wish the best for me,” he added.
‘Hate Story 4’ gets ‘A’ certificate
Mumbai– Director Vishal Pandya says that like the previous instalments of “Hate Story”, its fourth part, which is “clearly” targeted towards an adult audience, has also received an ‘A’ certificate.
“Hate Story” as a brand serves the audience with an edgy content that is a mix of thriller, erotica and revenge.
On the adult rating, Pandya said in a statement: “The film is clearly targeted towards an adult audience… not just erotica, but even the themes of the film with revenge as its central story.”
“The theme of the film is based on multiple issues faced by women and how it has built the emotion of hate in them and thus, their revenge. I would be worried if the censor board gave my film franchise a ‘U/A’ certificate.”
“Hate Story 4”, which stars Urvashi Rautela, Karan Wahi, Vivan Bhatena and Ihana Dhillon, will hit the screens on Friday.
Rajkummar, Kangana to star in ‘Mental Hai Kya’
Mumbai– Actors Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut have teamed up again for a film after starring in the 2014 hit movie “Queen”. They are now set for a “mental ride” with the upcoming film “Mental Hai Kya”.
Rajkummar on Monday tweeted his first look from the film. He is seen pointing his middle fingers in the image.
“Crazy is the new normal. ‘Mental Hai Kya’ with immensely talented Kangana Ranaut and my favourite (producer) Ekta Kapoor. Let’s begin this mental ride Shailesh R. Singh, Balaji Motion Pictures, Ruchikaa Kapoor and Kanika Dhillon,” he captioned the image.
His along with Kangana’ first look in which she is sporting a boy cut hairstyle was shared on the official Twitter page of Balaji Motion Pictures.
“It’s time to bring out the crazy in you… because sanity is overrated! Here’s presenting the first look of ‘Mental Hai Kya’ starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao,” the caption read.
“Mental Hai Kya” will be directed by Prakash Kovelamudi, who has helmed south Indian films like “Anaganaga O Dheerudu” and “Size Zero”.
Anupam Kher in New York for ‘exciting project’
New York– Veteran actor Anupam Kher is here to shoot for an “exciting” project.
“On my way to Heathrow Airport, London, to travel to New York. Looking forward to shoot for an exciting project. Jai Ho. Please send me your love and best wishes,” he captioned a video that he shared on Twitter on Sunday.
Details about the project were not shared.
In January, Anupam shot for his 512th film titled “Singh In The Rain” in Malibu. The upcoming film will be directed by Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri.
Anupam-starrer “The Big Sick” on Sunday missed out on winning an Oscar to “Get Out”.
Pakistan-origin actor-comedian Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily V. Gordon lost an Oscar for their original screenplay for the film.
It was the first nomination for the couple.
“The Big Sick” is loosely based on the real-life romance between Nanjiani and Gordon. It follows an interracial couple who must deal with cultural differences after Emily falls ill.
Ihana’s ‘kind of a narrator’ role in ‘Nastik’
Mumbai– Actress Ihana Dhillon, who is set to make her Bollywood debut with “Hate Story 4”, says she is “kind of a narrator” in the Arjun Rampal-starrer “Nastik”.
Talking about her character in “Nastik”, Ihana said: “I am already doing one movie titled ‘Nastik’ with Arjun Rampal, which will release this year. I have another movie, so it’s going good.”
“In ‘Nastik’, I am doing a cameo role. I have one song with Arjun Rampal in the film. There is no female character in ‘Nastik’. The character that I am playing… she is kind of a narrator of the film. It’s nice and interesting,” she added.
Ihana is currently busy promoting “Hate Story 4”.
“I am thankful to the audience for loving the trailer of the film. ‘Hate Story 4′ is releasing on March 9. I am nervous but I am more happy because it’s my first Hindi film,” she said.
Asked Ihana for whom she wants to host a special screening of “Hate Story 4”, she said: “There is no choice. I want everyone to watch the movie because I feel it has a really good story. After release of the film, I will go to Chandigarh and there, I will host screening of my film for family and friends.”
Directed by Vishal Pandya and written by Sammeer Arora, “Hate Story 4” also features Urvashi Rautela, Karan Wahi and Vivan Bhatena.
Hrithik wishes students appearing for CBSE exams good luck
Mumbai– Actor Hrithik Roshan on Monday wished good luck to students who are appearing for their board exams.
“Good luck to all students appearing for the CBSE exams today! So nice to hear that the board is allowing students with special needs to use laptops this year,” Hrithik tweeted.
The actor, who has started shooting for “Super 30”, a biopic on Anand Kumar who is a mathematics wizard and teaches 30 meritorious and talented candidates each year from economically backward sections for the entrance examination for the Indian Institute of Technology, asked everyone to stay calm.
He added: “Playing a teacher, I can’t forget how nervous I used to get as a student. Stay calm and don’t sacrifice sleep! Sending you power!”
Backed by Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films and directed by Vikas Bahl, “Super 30” is slated to release in November.
Ali Fazal’s film loses out on Oscars
Los Angeles– Indian actor Ali Fazal-starrer “Victoria & Abdul”, with Judi Dench in the key role, lost out on a chance to win an Oscar at the 90th Academy Awards here on Sunday.
The movie was nominated in two categories – Best Costume Design for Consolata Boyle and Make-up and Hairstyling for Daniel Phillips and Lou Sheppard.
The Best Costume Design award was bagged by Mark Bridges for black comedy “Phantom”, and in the movie Make-Up and Hairstyling segment, the team behind “Darkest Hour” –A Kazuhiro Tsuji, David Mallinowski and Lucy Sibbick — took away the accolades for the prosthetic work required to turn actor Gary Oldman into Winston Churchill.
The awards were presented by screen legend Eva Marie Saint, who won Best Actress in 1955 for “On The Waterfront”. She received a standing ovation when she took the stage.
Helmed by Stephen Frears, “Victoria & Abdul” is based on a novel by Shrabani Basu. It revolves around the relationship shared by Queen Victoria and Abdul, who was a Munshi in her government. It also shows his journey on how he became one of the most powerful figures in the court.
The role of the queen is played by Dench and Abdul is essayed by Ali.
Ali had earlier spoken out about the hard work that went in for the movie.
“I remember sitting for hours in a day just for my fittings and markings. And how meticulously Consolata Boyle would tailor them to match the period we were depicting. It was like watching a painter unravel a masterpiece.
“The same goes for Daniel Phillips, a Golden Globe winner, who was responsible for all our looks,” he had said earlier this year when the two nominations were announced.
Siddarth Roy Kapur speaks of entertainment business challenges
Mumbai– Renowned film producer Siddarth Roy Kapur on Sunday evening shared some of the challenges affecting the growth of Indian entertainment industry in the international market.
Speaking at the 19th edition of Ficci Frames 2018, Siddarth, who is also the Co-Chair, FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee, said: “FICCI is launching an international content market which is a great initiative. We are a 1,26,000 crore industry with 0.74 lakh people and that is less than 1 per cent of GDP.
“We are the largest producers of films but the entire industry is valued less than the box office collection of ‘Avatar’. We don’t have a revenue model that is saleable and can actually make sense according to the investments made.”
“It is important to see what the challenges are and what we need to do to be able to move forward. Single Window clearance is tremendous for the industry.”
Ficci Frames 2018 is a three-day convention where more than 60 international companies of buyers, distributors and other business people gathered from around 30 countries.
The main event will start from Monday, March 5, and will continue until March 7, at Grand Hyatt in Mumbai.
An array of topics including film tourism, dwindling box office collections, historical and biopics — endangered species, women empowerment in the digital era, among many others will come up for discussion during the event.
The panel comprise eminent persons like filmmaker Ramesh Sippy, Alankrita Shrivastava, Shyam Benegal and Shabana Azmi, among others. (IANS)
