Deepika, Alia among guests at Movie Mela event of Jio MAMI gala

Mumbai– Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar are among guests at the fourth edition of the much-anticipated event Movie Mela, at Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star this year.

A celebration of popular cinema, Movie Mela is a one-of-a-kind event where cinema lovers can catch their favourite filmmakers and actors in candid conversations, while soaking in the ultimate cinema fan experience. The day-long movie carnival is scheduled to be hosted on October 13 in Mumbai at Balgandharva Rangmandir in Bandra.

The day will kick off with a session where Deepika Padukone will chat about creating her top five roles, and her journey in the dazzling but challenging film world.

This will be followed by a session with new-age fiolmmakers such as Amit Sharma, Amar Kaushik, Sriram Raghavan, Meghna Gulzar, and Sujoy Ghosh, who will give the audience a peek into their on-set personalities and their quirks behind the scenes. Both sessions will be moderated by MAMI festival director Anupama Chopra and film critic Rajeev Masand.

The day will end with filmmaker Karan Johar returning to Movie Mela with another edition of Big Talk — this time with Alia Bhatt. There will be a surprise guest, too.

Salman Khan is Katrina Kaif’s ‘true friend’

Mumbai– Actress Katrina Kaif has opened up about superstar Salman Khan calling him a true friend.

Katrina was speaking at the India Today conclave about her relationship with Salman, with whom she has given hits after hits such as “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya”, “Tees Maar Khan”, “Tiger Zinda Hai”, “Ek Tha Tiger” and “Partner”.

She also said: “Its a friendship that’s lasted 16 years, he’s a true friend. He’s a solid person who is there for you when you need it. He may not be in touch with you all the time but he stands besides his friends.”

The two were last seen together in “Bharat”, which has been named as Bollywood’s biggest overseas grosser in 2019 so far. The Ali Abbas Zafar directorial is the highest-grossing Hindi film abroad.

On the work front, Katrina, who is Hong Kong-born, is currently busy shooting for filmmaker Rohit Shetty’ next titled “Sooryavanshi” opposite Akshay Kumar.

Katrina says she has always loved his movies, which are popular for their high dose of action.

“‘Sooryavanshi has a really interesting story and I’ve always loved Rohit’s films,” Katrina had previously told IANS, without divulging much about her role in the film.

“Sooryavanshi” is the new addition in Rohit Shetty’s cop drama universe after the two “Singham” films and “Simmba”.

While Salman is currently busy shooting for the third installment of the “Dabangg” franchise directed by Prabhudheva. The action comedy brings back the 53-year-old star in his popular avatar of Chulbul Pandey.

Salman will be seen in another film directed by Prabhudheva, which is slated to release in Eid 2020. The details related to the movie are still under wraps.

Aashka Goradia, husband to start a Yoga Shala

Mumbai– Actress Aashka Goradia and her husband Brent Goble will restore a 150-year-old Portuguese house to start a Yoga Shala.

The “Kkusum” actress has been flaunting her curves in her pole dance and yoga videos on social media. Now, she is working towards helping her American husband realise his dream in India.

Aashka said: “Brent has spent the last year and a half getting trained and certified in Yoga. I am lucky that I had the opportunity to become his first student and learn Yoga from him. In the process, we dreamt of opening up Yoga Shala where people can spend a few days, detox and completely detach from everything.”

They didn’t think it would have been possible in the hustle and bustle of Mumbai.

“We have found the most beautiful and quaint 150-year-old Portuguese house in Goa which will be Brent’s base for teaching Yoga. I’ll be shuffling back and forth between the two cities but we are definitely excited. Our hearts skipped a beat when we saw the Portuguese home for the first time and we looked at each other and said, ‘This is it’,” she said.

John’s ‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ to release on Oct 2, 2020

Mumbai– Actor John Abraham’s sequel to the hit film “Satyameva Jayate” is slotted to release on Gandhi Jayanti, i.e. October 2, next year.

Announcing the release date, John took to social media and shared the film’s poster.

“‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ releasing 2nd October 2020,” he tweeted.

The film also features Divya Khosla Kumar, who is the wife of producer Bhushan Kumar.

On working with John in the action-thriller, Divya said: “I am really thankful to John and (director) Milap (Zaveri) as they have decided to cast me in their film as the female lead. I feel it’s a big opportunity for me. Earlier I did direction but for some time now I was trying to get back in acting.

“I am grateful to John because some actors have barriers in their minds while working with a married actresses, but John is so warm and open in his approach towards co-actors. John has done a fabulous job in his recent films as ‘Satyameva Jayate’ and ‘Batla House’, so I am looking forward to working with him.”

Chandan Roy Sanyal goes behind the camera

Mumbai– Actor Chandan Roy Sanyal has directed and produced a film called “So Sicily”.

The 40-minute travel film is about a man named Albert, who travels to Sicily, Italy, to meet a girl. It is a story about his journey, his romantic fantasy and social satire. The film has been shot by three people in 23 days across Spain and Italy.

“‘So Sicily’ is a pun on the social network and we also shot some of the major portions of the film in Sicily, which made us coin the two terms together,” Sanyal said.

“The film is a beautiful journey and is one of a kind story with music being its heartbeat. I am heavily inspired by people like Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, M. S. Sathyu and John Cassavetes. The cinema is changing and I am glad I can make my own films without diluting the process at any stage,” he added.

Chandan is a co-director and the protagonist in the film. It also stars German-Indian actor Mira Mazumdar. It has been shot by Archit Patel, who recently shot “Panga” for director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.

Produced by Proscenium Film Company and Crew It Up, the film has been co-directed by Chandan and Jai Sharma.

Isha Koppikar to play ‘Punjabi kudi’ in new web series

Mumbai– Actress-turned-politician Isha Koppikar will be seen playing the role of a Sikhni from Punjab in the upcoming web series “Lovely Da Dhaba”.

She will essay the role of a martyr’s widow who continues to take forward her late husband’s tradition to serve through her dhaba.

Talking about her role, Isha said: “I am glad that I got a chance to play and experience such a colourful character through Lovely. It was a task for me to get the Punjabi nuance correctly, since I was born in a Konkani family. I hope that the audience showers love and support like they always do.”

The web series has six episodes. Major portions of the show were shot in outskirts of Punjab.

Directed by Kenny Chhabra and Produced by Vishal Patil, Avishek Mazumdar and Suresh Anchan, ‘Lovely Da Dhaba’ will be streamed on Gemplex platform from 30th September 2019

Apart from “Lovely Da Dhaba”, Isha will also be seen in another web series, titled “Fixer”.

“Fixer” will stream on ALT Balaji from October 7. (IANS)
