Arjun Aravind Located, Faces Murder Charges in Deaths of Mother and Brother in Acton

ACTON, Mass. — Seventeen-year-old Arjun Aravind has been located and taken into custody in connection with the deaths of his mother and younger brother inside their Acton home, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Acton Police Chief Douglas Sturniolo confirmed Wednesday morning that Aravind had been located and that there is no longer a risk to public safety.

The developments mark a dramatic turn in the investigation that began Tuesday evening after police were called to a home on Martha Lane for a well-being check.

Mother and Brother Found Dead

According to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, officers entered the home shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after the father of the family contacted Acton police. The father had reportedly been unable to reach family members after an expected visiting tutor could not get inside the home.

Authorities found 45-year-old Sudha Venkatesan and 14-year-old Siddharth Aravind dead inside the residence.

At a Wednesday afternoon news conference, District Attorney Ryan said the victims had suffered “obvious trauma.” The Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the precise causes of death.

According to Boston 25 News, which reported from the news conference, Sudha was last seen by her husband when he left for work at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday. Siddharth was last seen at a recreational facility before returning home around noon.

“The deaths occurred in a fairly large window,” Ryan said, according to Boston 25 News.

Arjun Aravind Located and Charged

According to Ryan and reporting by Boston 25 News, Arjun Aravind allegedly left the home in his mother’s green Honda Accord.

Police subsequently located Arjun and the vehicle Wednesday morning on Andrew Avenue in Weymouth, where he was taken into custody.

Arjun is facing two counts of murder, along with two counts each of assault and battery on a family member and assault and battery. He is also charged with use of a vehicle without authority and theft, according to District Attorney Ryan.

Boston 25 News reported that Arjun was expected to be arraigned Wednesday in juvenile court on the vehicle-related charges before facing the murder and assault charges in Concord District Court on Thursday.

Concerns About Prior Online Activity

According to Boston 25 News’ reporting from the district attorney’s news conference, Ryan said Arjun had recently displayed concerning behavior, including internet and ChatGPT searches involving what she described as “theoretical ideas or fantasy stories regarding the killing of his family.”

Ryan said the online activity included creating fantasy stories and Gothic novels and developing characters in scenarios that appeared to relate to threats involving his family.

The district attorney did not provide further details about how investigators are evaluating that online activity in relation to the deaths.

Community Shocked by Tragedy

Ryan described the deaths as an “unspeakable tragedy” and said it was a “very dark day” for the Acton community.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths or a possible motive.

Acton police had earlier warned residents of an increased police presence as investigators worked to locate Arjun. With his apprehension, authorities have confirmed that there is no threat to public safety related to the search for him.

The identities and ages of the victims were released Wednesday by authorities, providing new details about the family at the center of the investigation.
