Amitabh Bachchan Mourns Asha Bhosle, Calls Her Legacy “Eternal Music”
Veteran Actor calls her legacy “an entire encyclopedia of eternal music.”
Mumbai–India bid farewell to one of its most iconic voices as Asha Bhosle breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital following multi-organ failure. Her passing marks the end of an era in Indian music that spanned over eight decades.
On Monday, Amitabh Bachchan expressed his “immense grief” in a deeply personal note shared on his blog. Reflecting on her unparalleled contribution to music, he wrote that “an entire era… an incredible, phenomenal, astounding, prodigious presence” has been lost.
Praising her unmatched versatility, Bachchan described how Bhosle brought life to every song she sang. He noted that while “the body has left us,” her voice and soul would remain immortal. “She has left us an entire encyclopedia of eternal music,” he added, capturing the sentiment shared by millions of admirers across generations.
The actor also visited the singer’s Mumbai residence to pay his last respects.
Bhosle’s mortal remains were kept at her residence on Monday, allowing family, friends, and members of the film and music fraternity to bid their final farewell. She was accorded state honours, with her casket draped in the Indian tricolour. Her last rites were performed at the Shivaji Park crematorium later in the day.
Asha Bhosle began her illustrious journey at a young age, recording her first song for the Marathi film Majha Bal in 1943. She later rose to prominence in Hindi cinema, delivering countless timeless hits. Among her most celebrated songs are Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani, O Haseena Zulfonwale Jaane Jahan, and Yeh Ladka Hai Allah Kaisa Hai Deewana.
Her extraordinary body of work, marked by versatility across genres—from classical and ghazals to pop and cabaret—cemented her status as one of the greatest playback singers in Indian cinema history.
