BOSTON–Youth Ambassadors are a group of middle and high schoolers who volunteer for the Boston Chapter of Akshaya Patra Foundation, a global leader in providing hot, unlimited mid-day meals to over two million children every day in 24,000+ schools across 16 states and two Union Territories in India.
In an exclusive video interview with INDIA New England News, four Youth Ambassadors from Boston chapter—Jaya Kolluri (12th grade), Shiva Kolluri (8th grade), Ishan Padmawar (10th grade), and Abirami Tilak (9th grade)—talk about why and how do the volunteers for Akshaya Patra.

Youth Ambassadors help raise money/spread awareness about the Akshaya Patra and try to get people to donate to the cause, of feeding underprivileged children in India, specifically school lunches, so hunger doesn’t affect learning.
The group also organizes various types of competitions to raise awareness about the program.
The Boston Chapter, established in 2006, is the oldest Chapter of Akshaya Patra Foundation USA and has a strong and generous donor base throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island.
Since its establishment in 2000, Akshaya Patra has served over 3.5 billion meals to school children in India, with 65 kitchens operating in 14 States and 2 Union Territories. The organization’s Innovative approach and commitment to making a positive impact have allowed it to serve 2 million meals daily to government school children. In response to the COVID-19 lockdown in India, Akshaya Patra has served more than 240 million meals to migrant workers and vulnerable communities.
