A.R. Rahman meets MS Dhoni at CSK event, sparks fan frenzy

MUMBAI — Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman met former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni during the franchise’s pre-season event “ROAR 2026” in Chennai, setting off a wave of excitement among fans on social media.
The event, held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season, brought together fans and team members of the five-time champions.
Rahman shared a video of the meeting in a joint post with his son, A.R. Ameen. The clip showed the two icons on a video call before Rahman met Dhoni in person at the stadium. The video also included a moment with Dhoni’s daughter, Ziva, along with glimpses of Rahman’s live performance and fireworks lighting up the venue.
“Thala meets Thala #dhoni #arrahman #chennaisuperkings #ipl #csk,” the caption read, referencing the popular nickname “Thala” associated with Dhoni.
On the film front, Rahman is set to compose music for director Mani Ratnam’s upcoming project starring Vijay Sethupathi. Sources familiar with the production said Rahman will score the film, continuing his long-standing collaboration with Ratnam that dates back to “Roja” in 1992.
Production on the yet-to-be-titled film is expected to begin this summer, with reports suggesting a July start.
Rahman, one of India’s most celebrated composers, has received numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, and six National Film Awards. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010.
He began his film-scoring career in the early 1990s with “Roja” and went on to compose for several acclaimed Tamil films, including “Bombay,” “Kaadhalan,” “Thiruda Thiruda,” and “Gentleman.” His international work includes the score for “Slumdog Millionaire,” which earned him Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
Rahman made his debut as a director and writer with “Le Musk” in 2017 and was named Honorary President of Trinity Laban in 2024. (Source: IANS)
