Shilpa Rao’s Husband Slams Concert Organizers After Singer’s Performance Cut Short in Mumbai

Mumbai — Singer Shilpa Rao’s husband, Ritesh Krishnan, has publicly criticized the organizers of the Bollywood Music Project after his wife’s performance at a Mumbai concert was reportedly cut short, preventing her from properly saying goodbye to the audience.

The incident occurred October 24 during the 10th anniversary edition of the Bollywood Music Project (BMP), prompting criticism from fans and an emotional response from Rao.

Krishnan took to social media to express his frustration over what he described as disrespectful treatment of his wife during the event.

“I felt angry. I felt disappointed. I felt helpless!! And more than anything, it hurt to see someone I love and admire so deeply being put through this,” he wrote.

Krishnan said witnessing the incident was particularly painful because of Rao’s dedication to her fans and the importance she places on connecting with audiences through her music.

“People know Shilpa Rao as the voice behind some of the most beautiful songs. But I know the woman behind that voice. I know how much her audience and her fans means to her And to stand there last night, watching my wife being treated with such disrespect, was something I will never forget! BMP, your PR team is working overtime to convince Mumbai it did not see what it saw. Cute!” he wrote.

He also accused the organizers of denying Rao an opportunity to conclude her performance and acknowledge the audience.

“And above all, denying a fellow artist just two minutes to say goodbye to her audience was selfish, petty, shameless and utterly classless!! To everyone who stood by her, THANK YOU,” Krishnan added.

The controversy began when Rao’s microphone and stage lights were reportedly switched off before she could finish her set at the Mumbai concert.

As the singer attempted to address the crowd and thank her fans, fellow performer Kutle Khan reportedly began his scheduled performance.

The abrupt transition drew criticism on social media, where several fans expressed disappointment over the handling of Rao’s appearance.

Rao subsequently shared an emotional message describing her disappointment and thanking the audience for continuing to support her even after her performance ended unexpectedly.

“Mumbai, a little piece of my heart broke tonight. It hurts deeply to have something so beautiful taken away from us like this. But even when the music stopped, you did not. The way you kept calling my name, the love in your voices. I could feel it all. Our story tonight was left unfinished. I promise, I will come back. I love you, Mumbai. Forever and ever. Shilpa,” she wrote.

Krishnan also praised his wife for her handling of the situation and expressed hope that she would have another opportunity to perform for her Mumbai audience.

“Shilpa, I am incredibly proud of you my love. Mumbai, we will be back. Your love deserves a beautiful ending. And we owe you that,” he wrote.

Rao is among Bollywood’s prominent playback singers, known for popular songs including “Tose Naina,” “Khuda Jaane,” “Ishq Shava,” “Malang,” “Ghungroo,” “Besharam Rang,” “Chaleya” and “Sajni.”

She received the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for “Chaleya” from the Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara-starrer “Jawan.”

The concert controversy has renewed attention on the treatment of performers at major live music events, particularly the importance of allowing artists to complete their performances and interact with audiences.

The organizers’ response to the allegations was not detailed in the available reports. (Source: IANS)
