RIYADH — An Indian national was among two people killed in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, while two other Indian citizens were injured, Indian diplomatic officials confirmed Thursday.

The attack, which occurred Wednesday evening, left eight people injured and prompted Saudi authorities to assess damage to airport facilities. Airport operations have since resumed, with air traffic returning to normal.

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh said it was working to establish additional details about the incident and contact the families of those affected.

“Saudi authorities have informed that one Indian national was among two people who unfortunately lost their lives in the attack on Dammam airport yesterday night and two Indian nationals were injured. We are ascertaining further details and contacting the affected families. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased and we wish speedy recovery of the injured,” the embassy said in a statement posted on X.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed that the two fatalities included one Saudi citizen and one Indian resident.

The aviation authority said the eight injured people included one Saudi citizen, two Indians, two Yemenis, two Bangladeshis and one Nepalese national.

According to GACA, the victims sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical and were receiving treatment at several hospitals.

“Further to its earlier statement regarding the attack that targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on the evening of Wednesday, October 21, 2026, corresponding to 10 Jumada Al-Awwal 1448 AH, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) clarifies that the number of fatalities has risen to (2) after an additional fatality was confirmed, involving (1) Saudi citizen and (1) Indian resident,” the authority said.

“The number of the injured remains at (8), including (1) Saudi citizen, and residents of the following nationalities: (2) Indian, (2) Yemeni, (2) Bangladeshi, and (1) Nepalese. Their injuries range from minor to critical, and they are receiving the necessary medical care at several hospitals,” it added.

Saudi aviation officials said they were coordinating with relevant authorities to complete a damage assessment, inspect airport facilities and implement measures to protect passengers, airport employees and aviation infrastructure.

GACA confirmed that airport operations had resumed and flight movements had returned to normal following the incident.

The attack occurred amid heightened security concerns in Saudi Arabia, where Indian diplomatic officials have urged nationals to remain alert and follow local safety guidance.

On Sunday, the Indian Embassy issued an advisory encouraging Indian citizens living in Saudi Arabia to take precautions against possible aerial attacks.

“The Indian Community in Saudi Arabia is advised to take due precautions under the prevailing situation. In case of an aerial attack, immediately proceed to the nearest safe place (inside a building or an interior room away from windows), and refrain from filming, publishing, or sharing any information, photos, or videos related to the ongoing events,” the embassy said.

Indian officials have also been visiting hospitals treating injured Indian nationals and maintaining contact with their families to coordinate assistance.

The embassy said it would continue providing support to affected citizens and their relatives as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the airport attack. (Source: IANS)
