Shreya Ghoshal Says Independent Music Gives Her Freedom to Explore New Sounds
Mumbai — Playback singer Shreya Ghoshal, who recently released her new song “Bairi Piya,” says independent music has given her the freedom to experiment with sounds and styles beyond traditional film music.
Ghoshal said independent projects have been an important part of her musical journey, allowing her to collaborate with different artists and approach songs in ways that may not always be possible in playback singing.
“Independent music has been an important part of my journey for a long time because it gives me the freedom to explore songs and sounds outside the usual spaces I get to experience through playback music,” Ghoshal said.
“Every independent project has brought something different for me, whether it was experimenting with a sound, collaborating with another artist or simply approaching a song differently.”
With “Bairi Piya,” Ghoshal explores a softer, contemporary pop sound. The track blends warm synths, clean beats and a gentle rhythm with elements of Indian classical music.
“With ‘Bairi Piya’, I was drawn to the melody and the simplicity of the song, and I enjoyed exploring this softer, contemporary space,” she said.
“I think this is what I enjoy most about independent music, the freedom to keep discovering different sides of myself through it.”
Ghoshal has released several independent projects over the years, giving her opportunities to experiment beyond the film music format and work across different languages and genres.
Among her recent collaborations was “Kalyani (Remix),” which brought Ghoshal together with ARJN, KDS and FIFTY4 for a reimagining of MVR’s Malayalam independent track “Kalyani.” (Source: IANS)
