Rani Mukerji’s Mother Krishna Mukerji Dies at 75
Mumbai — Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji’s mother, Krishna Mukerji, died Tuesday afternoon at the age of 75, according to a statement from Yash Raj Films.
“With heavy hearts, we share that Rani Mukerji’s mother Mrs Krishna Mukerji, 75, passed away this afternoon. The family is deeply grateful for your love, prayers, and support and respectfully requests privacy during this time of immense grief,” the statement said.
Krishna Mukerji had been a frequent presence alongside her daughter at events over the years, and Rani Mukerji has previously spoken publicly about their close relationship.
Krishna Mukerji was also associated with Bengali cinema and worked as a playback singer during her career.
She was married to filmmaker Ram Mukherjee, one of the co-founders of Filmalaya Studios, who died in 2017. The couple had two children, Rani Mukerji and filmmaker and producer Raja Mukherjee.
Rani Mukerji became one of Hindi cinema’s leading actresses through films including “Ghulam,” “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” “Saathiya,” “Hum Tum” and “Black.” Her most recent release was “Mardaani 3,” which arrived in theaters in 2026.
The actress was also recently honored with the Raj Kapoor Special Contribution Award at the 62nd Maharashtra State Film Awards.
Accepting the honor, Mukerji spoke about her connection to Maharashtra and her career in cinema.
“Majhyasathi Maharashtra fakt ek rajya nahi. Maharashtra majhi janmabhoomi aahe. Majhi karmabhoomi aahe. Ani majhya ayushyacha ek avibhajya bhaag aahe,” she said, describing Maharashtra as her birthplace, the place where she built her career and an inseparable part of her life. (Source: IANS)
