G.V. Prakash Says ‘Immortal’ Took Two Years to Complete
Chennai — Actor and National Award-winning music composer G.V. Prakash has revealed that his upcoming horror thriller “Immortal” took about two years to complete, with one year devoted to filming and another to visual effects.
Directed by Mariyappan Chinna, the film stars Prakash in the lead role alongside Kayadu Lohar.
“Immortal is a relatively new genre for Tamil cinema. It’s a vampire film. It hasn’t been explored much in Tamil cinema. It’s a fantasy mystery survival thriller,” Prakash told reporters.
Prakash said the filmmakers had planned the lengthy production schedule from the beginning.
“We waited for a year for CG alone. The producer told us that we would shoot for a year and that we would wait for a year for CG. Only then would this film be released,” he said.
According to Prakash, the extended post-production period was intended to ensure that the computer-generated imagery met international standards. The visual effects work has been handled by companies in Canada.
Prakash also explained the origins of the film’s title, saying he initially wanted to call it “Saaga Varam” before the team settled on “Immortal.”
“In this film, there’s a portion that tells the story of a man who lives for 4,000 years. It will go to a prehistoric time,” he said.
The film has received a “U” certificate from India’s Central Board of Film Certification and is scheduled to be released Sept. 4.
Prakash recently shared a poster announcing the certification and release date on X. The filmmakers had previously announced in May that shooting had been completed.
The film’s teaser mixes romance, humor and horror before revealing its supernatural elements, including a bat-like creature. Prakash’s character is shown developing a romantic interest in Lohar’s character before the story shifts into darker territory.
The cast also includes T.M. Karthik, Kumar Natarajan, Lollu Sabha Maaran, Aaditya Kathir, Arshu Maharjan, Pema Tsamchoe and Sunita Shrestha.
