Amit Trivedi to Release ‘Unsung Unreleased,’ Album of Songs Originally Created for Films

Mumbai — Music composer Amit Trivedi is preparing to release “Unsung Unreleased,” a six-track album featuring songs originally created for films but ultimately left out of the projects.

Trivedi, known for his work on films including “Dev.D,” “Lootera,” “Queen” and “Bombay Velvet,” said the project will give those compositions an opportunity to reach listeners independently. A teaser for the album was released Friday.

“The thought behind ‘Unsung Unreleased’ was simple, why should a song have to wait just because it didn’t eventually make it into the film it was created for? If I still believe in the song and feel it deserves to be heard, I’d rather release it independently and let it find its own audience,” Trivedi said.

The album’s first track is scheduled for release on August 12, with the remaining five songs set to arrive at 15-day intervals.

Trivedi said a song can retain its artistic value even when circumstances surrounding the film for which it was written change.

“The film may have changed, but that doesn’t take away from what the song was meant to be. That’s really where Unsung Unreleased comes from, giving these songs a life beyond the films they were originally created for. And in many ways, being an independent artist gives me the freedom to finally let them be heard,” he said.

The tracks will be released through AT Azaad, Trivedi’s independent music label and YouTube channel.
