12 Indian Nationals Killed in Qatar Gas Facility Explosion

Doha — Twelve Indian nationals were among 13 people killed in an explosion at a gas facility in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatari authorities confirmed Monday.
The explosion and fire occurred Sunday evening at the Barzan local gas supply facility during the start-up of operations, according to QatarEnergy. Sixty-six people were injured in the incident.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls,” the Indian Embassy in Qatar wrote on X.
Qatari authorities said all injured Indian nationals were in stable condition and receiving appropriate medical care.
The embassy said it was working closely with Qatari authorities to assist the affected Indian nationals and their families. It is also making arrangements to send the remains of those killed to India as soon as possible.
Qatar’s Ministry of Interior said the incident resulted from a technical malfunction during an operation at a factory in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion to determine its precise technical cause and take necessary action under applicable legal and technical procedures.
The ministry said no leaks were detected that would pose a threat to people or the surrounding environment. It also expressed condolences to the families of those killed.
QatarEnergy said emergency response teams were deployed immediately after the explosion and brought the fire under control. The company said it would continue providing updates as more information becomes available. (Source: IANS)
