Three-Year-Old Girl Strangled to Death in Jharkhand, Police Say

GODDA, Jharkhand — A three-year-old girl was allegedly strangled to death and her body dumped in a well in Jharkhand’s Godda district, police said Friday.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the killing.
The incident took place in Makundi Santhali Tola under the Mufassil police station area, causing panic among local residents.
Police identified the victim as Nisha Soren, the 3-year-old daughter of Ramesh Soren. She had been staying at her maternal grandmother’s house in the village for the past few days. Her native village was Ramla Santhali Tola, also under the same police station area.
According to police, Nisha went missing Thursday afternoon. Her family members and villagers searched for her but could not find her late into the night.
Around midnight, some villagers noticed a man carrying a sack near a well. Suspecting something was wrong, they stopped and questioned him. Villagers alleged the man had secretly thrown the sack into the well and was trying to flee.
When questioned, the man reportedly confessed that the sack contained the girl’s body. Villagers then recovered the body from the well.
The accused was identified as Prem Murmu. Police said he also allegedly named an accomplice, identified as Jarmen Soren. Villagers caught both men and allegedly beat them before informing police.
Mufassil police station in-charge Anand Saha reached the scene with a police team after receiving the information. The two accused were rescued and taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Police sent the girl’s body for a post-mortem examination.
Saha said the two accused, both residents of the neighborhood, allegedly strangled the child to death. Police said the motive has not yet been established, and both accused are being questioned. (Source: IANS)
