Aamir Khan Opens Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025

“It’s great to be here in Melbourne,” the Bollywood superstar told the crowd at the festival’s glitzy press conference. “I’m certain the films and filmmakers here will have an amazing experience.”

The launch event was a who’s who of Indian cinema — from Vir Das and Aditi Rao Hydari to Shoojit Sircar and Tillotama Shome — alongside big names from the Victorian Government. Opening night belongs to Baksho Bondi, a Berlin Film Festival hit starring Shome, co-directed by Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi, and produced by Shome and Jim Sarbh.

Festival director Mitu Bhowmik Lange promised a powerhouse lineup of 75 films tackling themes from gender and sexuality to race and disability, plus an August 22 LGBTQ+ Pride Night.

Aamir’s next stop? Hoisting the Indian flag during IFFM’s Independence Day celebrations — a tradition as grand as the festival’s red carpet.

Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra Slam ₹60 Cr Cheating Case as ‘Baseless’

The case stems from a complaint by Mumbai businessman Deepak Kothari, who claims the celebrity couple defrauded him in a 2015–2023 loan-cum-investment deal tied to their

Shilpa Shetty

now-defunct home shopping venture, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. Kothari alleges the money, meant for business expansion, was diverted for personal use.

Their lawyer, Prashant Patil, fired off a statement slamming the case as a smear campaign. “This is an old business transaction already settled by NCLT. There’s no criminality involved,” he said, adding that auditors have provided cash flow statements and other records to police “more than 15 times” in the past year.

According to police, the couple allegedly reworked a proposed Rs 75 crore loan into an “investment” to dodge higher taxes, promising monthly returns and repayment of the principal. The Economic Offences Wing is now handling the probe.

Patil says the duo is preparing legal action against what he calls an attempt to tarnish their names.

The post included a shot of a young Sridevi and husband Boney Kapoor cradling

toddler Janhvi, a rare family portrait with sister Khushi, and touching images from Janhvi’s recent Tirumala visit. “Happy Birthday Mumma, every step with your name in my heart,” she wrote.

Sridevi, one of Bollywood’s most iconic stars, married Boney in 1996 after meeting on the set of the 1987 hit Mr. India. She died in 2018 at 54 in Dubai after an accidental drowning.

Boney also joined the remembrance, sharing a 1990 birthday throwback and recalling how he wished her a “happy 26th” on her 27th, hoping she’d take it as a compliment — but she thought he was teasing her.

Janhvi will next appear in Param Sundari, a North-meets-South romance releasing August 29.
