KOLKATA– The guesthouse in Anandapur, on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, where four suspects in the Patna hospital gangster murder case were arrested last week, was booked by a local woman, Alpana Das.
Ten individuals were initially detained from multiple locations during the coordinated operation last week. Of those, four were formally arrested and transported to Patna by Bihar Police. The remaining six, including Alpana, were later released but remain under close surveillance by Kolkata Police. Alpana was the only woman among those detained.
The four arrested suspects—Tauseef, the prime accused in the murder of Chandan Mishra at Paras Hospital in Patna; his cousin Yousuf Khan, also known as Nishu; their caretaker Bhim Kumar; and a male nurse, Harsh Kumar—were apprehended at the three-story Green Edge Regency guesthouse in Anandapur. The arrests were made in a joint operation between Bihar Police and the West Bengal Police Special Task Force.
According to a police source, Alpana Das had known Nishu Khan for some time and reportedly met him through social media. Nishu allegedly told her they were bringing a relative to Kolkata for medical treatment and asked her to book lodging at a guesthouse.
Investigators believe Alpana was unaware of the murder and had no knowledge of Nishu’s criminal background or any connection to the gang. Originally detained for questioning, she was released after police found no direct link between her and the Patna murder case. Alpana resides in the Dum Dum area in northern Kolkata.
The four accused were presented in Alipore court on Sunday, where a 48-hour transit remand was granted to Bihar Police.
Sources say that after committing the murder, the suspects left their weapons in Patna before fleeing to Kolkata. They were also carrying forged medical documents to support their cover story of seeking treatment, in case they were stopped en route.
The gang is believed to have checked into the Anandapur guesthouse on Friday afternoon after failing to make contact with Tauseef’s friend Ehsaan in the Shukhobrishti Housing Complex in New Town or secure accommodations near Park Street.
