New Delhi– An Air India Express flight bound for Phuket had to return to Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport just 16 minutes after takeoff on Saturday due to a technical issue, leaving passengers frustrated and confused.
Flight IX110, operated by a Boeing 737 Max 8, was scheduled to land in Phuket at 11:45 am, but was forced to abort the journey shortly after takeoff. The aircraft circled back and landed safely in Hyderabad, with the total airborne time recorded at just over a quarter of an hour.
An Air India Express spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying: “Shortly after takeoff, crew on one of our flights exercised abundant caution and elected to return to Hyderabad on account of a technical issue.”
The airline said that an alternative aircraft was arranged on priority, and passengers were provided with refreshments during the delay. “We regret the inconvenience while reiterating that safety remains the priority in every aspect of our operations,” the spokesperson added.
However, several passengers expressed frustration on social media, citing a lack of clear communication from the airline and poor coordination during the re-boarding process.
One user posted on X (formerly Twitter): “@DGCAIndia @AirIndiaX flight IX110 en route Hyderabad to Phuket returns after takeoff. Still no update—we’re waiting inside the plane. Frustrating.”
Another wrote: “Thank you @AirIndiaX for making me realise to never ever fly with you again… after being redirected and made to go through an unorganised re-security check.”
The airline later issued an apology on social media, stating: “Please note that the delay was due to technical reasons, as ensuring our guest’s safety remains our top priority. We sincerely apologise once again and look forward to providing a better experience the next time you fly with us.”
The replacement flight eventually departed for Phuket after the delay. (Source: IANS)
